Guitar building and repair- a personal history

With over 35 years of full time instrument repair experience and 50,000 stringed instruments repaired, Doug MacCormack is uniquely qualified to perform your guitar repair or restoration quickly and professionally.

Doug MacCormack studied acoustic guitar building with renowned luthier and author of "Guitar Making-Tradition and Technology" William Cumpiano in 1979.

He then opened his own shop in Haverhill Massachusetts above the Haverhill Music Centre in 1980. Times were lean but he began to develop a faithful following of loyal customers, some of who are still loyal customers to this day.

In 1982 he was hired by Daddys Junky Music Stores, a 7 store chain at the time that eventually grew to 21 stores throughout New England. He remained Daddys primary guitar technician for the chain ever since and has become well known as one of the most sought after, respected and experienced luthiers in the region. Daddys had won awards too numerous to mention; A NAMM their renowned Service Department was awarded the “Best Service in the U.S”, a record 11 consecutive years. (the award then was retired!)

As their primary guitar tech for the chain, he’s repaired many thousands of instruments of all types during his 30 years at Daddys while gaining a vast amount of knowledge and experience along the way.

His past clients include Les Paul, Aerosmith, The Cars, Beatle Juice, The Fools, Anthrax, Wishbone Ash, Jeff Berlin and many other notable artists. In 2011 Daddys closed its doors. Doug now works with a new company called "The Music Techs, LLC" and the "Manchester Music Mill" in New Hampshire. Several other award winning repair staff are also now a part of the new “Music Techs” service center as well.
